The intention is that our first Blog starts at the beginning, with how we choose our pets and to be more precise, how to avoid choosing from (and therefore inadvertently supporting) cruel and illegal Puppy Farms. Sadly many new owners fall victim to fraudulent traders who go to any lengths to appear legitimate, sometimes renting a house for a short time, where healthy looking, substitute bitches can be seen with the ready to re-home pups. When health or behavioural problems arise, they find these traders have changed contact details and moved from the address without trace.
This month a campaign was launched by Veterinarian Cat Henstridge, and the magazine Companion Dog World. The message encourages people to only consider purchasing a puppy from a seller who will allow them to view the litter, with their mother, well before they are mature enough to be re-homed. This is an important request any prospective owners can make to breeders or sellers. Why?...because it will help you to differentiate between honest breeders and Puppy Farms/illegal importers of puppies, who won't be able to provide this early viewing.
I can't improve on this article so I have chosen to post it here in it's entirety
AS CAT SAYS "TOGETHER, AS DOG OWNERS AND ANIMAL LOVERS, WITH THIS MOVEMENT WE CAN REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE WELFARE OF DOGS AND PUPPIES HERE IN THE UK AND ACROSS EUROPE, NOW AND IN THE FUTURE"
